Founder

Kamal Hisham Jaafar

Called to the Bar in 1999, he founded Messrs Kamal Hisham & Associates four years later and has been its sole proprietor ever since.

The firm was built on a straightforward premise — that quality legal service is inseparable from integrity and professionalism, and that a client's protection comes before anything else. More than two decades on, that is still the standard he holds the practice to.

His own work is centred on criminal and corporate matters. He appears regularly before the Magistrates', Sessions and High Courts, and it is that trial experience that shapes how the firm approaches even its non-contentious work.

He studied law at Harvard University and California Western School of Law, and carried what he learned there back into practice in Malaysia.

He leads the firm from its main office at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and oversees the Johor Bahru and Dubai practices.

Education

Harvard, and California Western.

Before the firm, before the robes, there was Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He studied law at Harvard University and at California Western School of Law. The training that began there is what the practice has been built on since 2003: rigour first, and an argument you can defend on its own terms.

It is also why the firm has never treated its Malaysian practice and its work in the Gulf as separate things. Law travels better than most professions give it credit for.

In Court

Where the firm does its work.

Our advocates appear across the Malaysian courts, and that trial experience informs everything else the firm does — including the advisory work that never sees a courtroom.

It is easier to draft an agreement well when you have spent years watching agreements fall apart under cross-examination.
